The practice courts were quiet when I came in, so I made my way to grab a good seat on Crt 1 where all the matches where that I wanted to see that day. Luckily there were no matches I wanted to see on Centre Court, so I could avoid that one all day :p

On crt 1 I found Granollers and Lopez practicing before the start of the matches.

They had to be shooed off so Chardy and Benneteau could start their match.

I was rooting for Benneteau, simply cos it's hard not to :p Every tournament could be The One that he could win. He did make the final here after all a few years ago.
Everything was going along fine, though Benny was struggling a bit more to hold serve. Then at 3-3 in the first set, Benny suddenly walked around the net to shake hands with Chardy and that was it. No trainer or MTO…

So that left a gap while the organizers had to corral Granollers and Stakhovsky for the next match. I couldn't be bothered to leave my seat so I just stayed put.

It was a weird sort of a match with a lot a slicing and a lot of s&v from Stakho.
Oh my gods, Marcel was sooo bad in the first set. A bit better in the second and he did have a set point, but blew a volley :/ Then Stakho closed it out :(

Time for doubles for the rest of the day!

First up WCs Begemann/Haase v Rosol/Thiem.

Begemann Haase

Rojer was in the stands to watch. It was nice to get to see a bit of Thiem up close. Him and Rosol had some quality points, but Begemann and Haase were more consistent and ended up pulling through.

Next: Rojer/Tecau v Lindstedt/Matkowski

Matkowski Lindstedt

As the first ATP500 of the year, the doubles draw is pretty stacked with some big name R1 matches here.
Having said that. Lindstedt was clearly not at the races for this one. Matkowski could bail him out somewhat, but not enough. Rojer/Tecau made the final here last year and are one of the few teams staying together from last year, so they were the favs.

Qureshi and Zimonjic were watching this one. They also stayed for the next one: Bopanna/Nestor v Klaasen/Paes

Paes and Klaasen have made one final and got one title already this year, so it was surprising how bad they were playing! Especially Klaasen :/
Nestor is a great player, but mostly has become just very inconsistent at his age. This was one of his good days :)

And was Rotterdam for this year.

I have been toying with the idea of getting a tournament pass maybe next year and do the whole week. It is after all the closest tournament to me and they always get a good field in both singles and doubles.
So far I've done the week-pass thing in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona and I really like getting to see the whole draw progress. But in those instances I combined it with actual vacation and Rotterdam is in no way a vacation destination.
I don't really like indoor venues, cos you're stuck inside with nowhere to go and no fresh air. The Center Court has crappy seating and even worse acoustics. However, the other courts are great and the practice courts are very accessible.
Also, *if* Delpo is healthy and still playing next year, it's a good chance he'll play here.

If only the venue for Rosmalen was more accessible I would go to that one in a heart beat, but alas that's not an option :(
